Meet the Margate Team Behind Sightline Windows & Doors Margate

Every window and door we install in Margate passes through the hands of people who live here, raise kids here, and understand what a south Florida storm season does to a house. We’re not a dispatch service routing calls to whoever’s available. We’re a crew that shows up together, works together, and answers to the same standard: the Haven Standard, written and unchanging since 2012. Sonia Raman built this team on the principle that the person measuring your opening should be the person accountable for how it closes.

Sonia Raman, Owner

I started Sightline in 2012 after watching too many homeowners get a verbal quote on Tuesday and a revised bill on Friday. Before that, I spent eight years as a project manager for a PGT distributor, walking job sites from Coral Springs to Boca, learning that the measurement and the quote should never be two different conversations. I hold a Florida Residential Contractor license and personally review every written scope before it leaves our office. What I actually do most days: check frame readings against the measured survey, spot-check photo records, and answer the phone when a customer calls at 10 PM because a storm’s rolling in and they want to know if their impact order shipped. I live in Margate, two miles from our warehouse. My garage door is a ViewLux impact-rated model I installed myself to test the hardware kit. It survived Hurricane Ian without a rattle.

Marcus T., Lead Technician

Marcus has been with us since 2017, which in this trade means he’s seen the transition from nail-fin installs to full-flange impact systems and can still do both without checking a manual. He’s certified in PGT and CGI installation protocols, and he’s the one we send when a job requires custom geometric windows or a retrofit where the original frame can’t be disturbed. Before Sightline, he ran his own handyman business in Lauderdale Lakes for six years, so he talks to homeowners like someone who’s had to eat a mistake himself, not like a technician reading from a script. His detail: he keeps a collection of failed seals and corroded fasteners in a bucket in his truck, not for show, but to show customers exactly why their old window failed. He calls it his “evidence bucket.” Customers ask to see it more often than you’d think.

Elena V., Senior Installer

Elena joined us in 2019 after five years installing commercial storefront systems in Miami-Dade, where the wind-load requirements are stricter and the inspectors don’t blink. She specializes in sliding and patio door installs, particularly the multi-panel systems that require precise sill leveling across an 8-foot span, one shim at a time. She’s certified in Therma-Tru and CWS door systems, and she’s trained two of our apprentices in proper flashing sequence, which she learned the hard way after a callback on her third solo job that she still describes in unnecessary detail. Her human detail: she runs a small orchid nursery in her Pompano Beach backyard, and she’ll tell you that glazing a window and potting a Vanda are the same skill, patience and pressure in the right measure. She’s not wrong.

Darnell J., Service Coordinator

Darnell answers the phones, schedules the surveys, and keeps the photo records organized, which means he’s the reason a customer in Margate can call at 2 PM and know whether their impact order from ES Windows is on the truck or still at the factory. He’s been with us since 2020, previously managing logistics for a medical supply company, so his tolerance for “we’ll get back to you” is nonexistent. He knows every product line we carry by lead time and by which manufacturer’s rep actually returns calls. His certification is in Haven Standard documentation, which means he audits every job folder for the five required items: measured survey, written scope, signed quote, photo record, and warranty card. His detail: he coaches youth basketball at Margate’s Firefighters Park on Saturdays, and he applies the same rule to both jobs, if you’re not five minutes early, you’re late. The crew has learned not to argue.

Anaïs R., Apprentice Installer

Anaïs started with us in 2023, fresh from the construction program at Atlantic Technical College in Coconut Creek, where she won a regional SkillsUSA competition in carpentry. She’s completing her 2,000-hour apprenticeship under Elena and Marcus, working through PGT’s installer certification module by module. Right now she handles prep and seal work on standard replacements, but she’s done two solo retrofits under supervision and didn’t miss a shingle. Her specialty interest is energy-efficient glazing, U-factor and SHGC calculations, the kind of nerdery that actually saves a homeowner money on their FPL bill. Her detail: she grew up in a 1972 Margate ranch with original jalousie windows, which is how she learned that “ventilation” and “water intrusion” are sometimes the same thing. She’s replacing those windows for her parents this summer, on her own time, with Elena checking every frame reading.
